![]() "You need to acknowledge that there is a problem, you need to understand the scope and magnitude of that problem. But in her report, Bates noted the most current health data is three years old. "If you're not documenting those significant events in that child's life, how are you formulating services?"īates said one silver lining was some departments – like the Department of Health – had more data available than previously. She classified "significant events" as incidents ranging from child abuse or neglect to mental health concerns. "The importance of documentation is, significant events in a young person's life are not being recorded," Bates said in an interview with CBC News. (Nunavut Representative for Children and Youth) In it, the Department of Family Services was unable to provide information on why children in Nunavut are referred for services. In her report, Jane Bates wrote she had "deep concerns about both the lack of completed documentation detailing significant events and decisions about young people's lives and the difficulty in retrieving it."Īn excerpt from the annual report from Nunavut's Representative for Children and Youth. The government's struggles around data tracking is among the central themes in this year's annual report from the territory's child and youth advocate. ![]() Data collection is a government-wide problem, child advocate says CBC News asked for an explanation, after the deadline for this story. It's not immediately clear what accounted for the steep drop in the number of reported incidents. The department reported 165 violent or physical assault incidents in the 2020-21 school year – an 84-per-cent drop from the 1,093 incidents reported from CBC's investigation from the previous school year. The Department of Education emphasized it does track violent incidents using a paper-based process – pointing to its ability to report violence statistics to Nunavut's Child and Youth representative for the office's latest annual report which was published last week.īut even the accuracy of those statistics is questionable. "The department expects that once the new violence in schools reporting mechanism is launched, in addition to the current paper-based process, we will be able to better allocate the necessary resources to support our students and staff in the reduction of incidents in our schools," the department said. There's no timeline for when the system will be up and running, because privacy impact assessments take various lengths of time, according to the territorial privacy office. Then-education minister David Joanasie even took to the floor of the Legislative Assembly in the following weeks, committing to the fall 2021 implementation target.ĬBC Investigates When Nunavut students are violent, suspending them isn't so simple The investigation compiled a territory-wide snapshot of the number of violent incidents in a school year, marking the first time the government had pulled data on the issue. The department reaffirmed a fall 2021 rollout of the system following a CBC News investigation earlier this year into violence in Nunavut schools. Getting a tracking system in place was one of the action items from the committee. In 2013, the department and Nunavut's teachers union formed a joint anti-violence committee. The delay is the latest in a long string of missed deadlines for a project that has been eight years in the making. "This new reporting mechanism was intended to launch this fall and we came up short on meeting that goal," the education department's statement read. The territorial privacy office said these assessments are needed to make sure the government has the legal authority to collect the data it wants, and to ensure there are checks and balances on how it will store and use the data. In a statement, the department said such assessments are "standard practice for all Government of Nunavut websites and online forms that may have access to or collect private information." Nunavut's Department of Education still doesn't have a formal system in place to accurately track violent incidents in the territory's schools, despite repeated commitments to have one up and running by this fall.ĬBC News inquired into the status of the system back in September, at which time a department spokesperson said key staff in all regions would be trained on the system by the end of October, with a planned rollout shortly thereafter.īut those plans have now stalled as the system is undergoing a privacy impact assessment. ![]() ![]() I am taking gaming requests, so leave a comment while I still have this machine! □ I setup the graphical settings and attempt to play the game. ![]() Sure, it’s not a brand new idea, and it’s probably even fair to call this a spiritual successor of sorts to Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racingif you’re the sort of person who uses any and every. Each character will speed around the track in cars, planes, motorbikes, and in Aiai’s case – a banana mobile! Secret short cuts, swift handling and avoiding strategically placed obstacles are certainly the best way to get to the top of the podium…īut winning is only part of the fun in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing! Each character has a specific All Star move – such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado – that allows a quick way for competitors to get back into the race! Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition to ensure they don’t become a threat to that number one position.īattle it out in single or multiplayer mode, allowing up to four friends to race in frantic split-screen action, or up to eight players to compete online in the ultimate racing showdown.Ĭan Amigo scramble Dr. Basically, the premise is that Sonic and his friends, as well as characters from throughout SEGA’s somewhat esoteric lineup, get together and race karts around wacky, power-up laden racetracks. Eggman, Tails, AiAi, Amigo and many more will join Sonic in their custom built vehicles, revving their engines and jostling to stay ahead of the pack. ![]() In a frantic battle to the checkered flag, Sonic and friends speed around tracks set in medieval castle ramparts, lush rainforests and bustling cities, all taken from the visually rich and varied universes of Sonic and SEGA. It was developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Which brings us to the handling of the title character, voiced by Parks and Recreation’s Ben Schwartz. ![]() It should be 90s kids, going by when Sonic had his biggest cultural impact.A Sonic The Hedgehog movie would have been a great idea 20 years ago. There hasn’t been a critically-acclaimed or commercially successful Sonic video game title for over a decade, so actual children *aren’t* technically the core demo for this film. Either commit to being a full-blown Sonic the Hedgehog movie that appeals solely to core fans, respecting the lore and potentially alienating a mainstream audience thus making little money OR go for the self-aware, adult-aimed crowd pleaser approach that pisses off Sonic stans BUT potentially appeals to a wider audience that only vaguely remembers who Sonic is. Hilarity also ensued.) So, who is Sonic The Hedgehog for?Ī film like this has two choices. (Fun fact: Marsden’s literally performed this very role before in 2011’s Hop in which he befriends a quippy CGI Easter Bunny-in-training voiced by Russell Brand. One day he runs so fast he causes a mass power outage, so Jim Carrey’s machine loving evil genius Dr Robotnik is tasked by the government to hunt him down for reasons I either a) can not remember or b) was never shown so then Sonic teams up with Tom, a nice guy cop played by a distractingly fake-tanned, mentally-barely present James Marsden. After being warped via a gold ring (hey kids, remember those? Sonic loves rings!) Sonic now lives hidden in the quiet Middle American town of Green Hills. Well, first let’s explore the plot: Sonic is an alien who's been sent to Earth and has to hide the fact he can run fast because a dying owl who raised him on his home planet told him so (?). So was it all really worth getting so worked up about in the first place? ![]() The backlash was so strong that director Jeff Fowler took to Twitter to announce a complete redesign.įast forward to the February 2020 release of the film: Sonic’s look is adjusted to actually look like Sonic (bombshell). It hasn’t left my brain for the last 72 hours.Įarly on in the production process, the filmmakers behind Sonic The Hedgehog famously decided that rather than create a 1:1 screen-worthy translation of the instantly recognisable blue speedster and then just add some ‘realistic’ furry texture ( Detective Pikachu style), they would be conjuring up their own design. Sonic The Hedgehog (2020), the cinematic experience, can best be described as ‘definitely a movie that people made’.Īt once, it’s an extremely predictable, easily forgettable paint-by-numbers odd couple/buddy cop/roadtrip number that simultaneously borders on ‘wow, this is so batshit it’s good!’. ![]() What I don't like about this plugin is most of the Rhodes Patches. I am a fan of Jamiroquai and it was cool (and audibly pleasing) to see/hear the Distorted Whurly sound from the song "Black Capricorn day." Very very close representation. I don't use it as a standalone, but if I did, the manual explains very well how to midi map directly to the program. I run it mainly in Logic, so midi mapping is easy. I haven't really needed it to much for my purposes. The manual is clear and sufficient enough. I run a Macbook with Logic 9 and Ableton 7. Overall, this is a unique synth and a unique take on electric pianos, and for fans of synthy pianos and realistic pianos alike, this is a product worth checking out. Lounge Lizard is much more lightweight, and cpu processing has not been an issue: I've used it live at low latencies with no problems. Alongside my Native Instruments version of the Rhodes, the Lounge Lizard does seem slightly more digital and synth-y, but the Native Instruments uses hundreds of megabytes of samples, and it is extremely inflexible: one sound is pretty much all you get. I've personally never used an authentic Rhodes or Wurlitzer piano, but I use them a lot in my music and are familiar with how they sound in most modern recordings. You can easily save and organize your presets within the plugin as well. But if you like electric pianos, but would love to change tonal details, and adjust every little parameter to your liking, then this is the soft synth for you.Ĭompatible with Mac and Windows systems, it also includes a tremolo, EQ, and multi effects section in addition to the basic electric piano controls. ![]() If you want a synth that sounds exactly like a Rhodes or Wurlitzer, this may not be the best tool. This is a smart soft synth that gives you deep control over the electric sound, with incredible sounding results. Immediately, you'll see controls that are beyond the standard soft synth parameters: Stiffness, Tine, Geometry, Damper, etc. It is not based on samples from the real Rhodes or Wurlitzer pianos, yet it sounds surprisingly real, and it infinitely more flexible. Applied Acoustics System's take on an electric piano synthesizer plugin is unlike the rest.
